How Brassica Microgreens Protect Us

There is a family of vegetables identified as ‘Brassica’ that are particularly healthy for our bodies. Broccoli, Kale and Kohlrabi just to name a few. They contain fiber, vitamins and minerals that support bodily function. Not to mention they are mandatory to maintain the health of our gut microbiome (2 min video). Amazingly, the brassica’s support seem to have no end.

Brassica (a.k.a. cruciferous) vegetables are extremely rich in bioactive compounds such as Sulforaphane, Glucosinolates and Indole-3-carbinol. As Microgreens are up to 40X more nutritious than an adult vegetable, their abundance of these compounds is multiplied as well. Bioactive compounds only start to work when a plant is chewed up and broken down. The act of eating itself is what sets the healing in motion.

What happens when we eat Brassica Microgreens:

  • Cancer prevention: inhibits tumor growth, decreases production of cancer-related hormones, promotes detoxification and removes damaged cells.
  • Reduced inflammation: stops tissue, cell and organ damage that contribute to various diseases such as Heart Disease, Diabetes, Cancer, Arthritis and numerous others. Activates Nrf2 (a cellular defense mechanism) that then activates our genes to protect us against oxidative stress and inflammation.
  • Brain health: offers neuroprotective qualities aiding in the prevention of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
  • Heart health: lowers blood pressure and cholesterol.
  • Liver health: aids in supporting and possibly reversing liver diseases.
  • Lung health: protects lung damage and improves our ability to remove toxins related to respiratory diseases.

This is a very limited list of how Brassica Microgreens can benefit our health. In addition to the bioactive compounds, fiber, vitamins and minerals; they taste SOOO delicious. My only question now is, why wouldn’t we all eat Microgreens with every meal?
Mad House Farms grows a variety of Microgreens that belong to the Brassica family.

We invite you to explore our Microgreens and find the health benefits that are right for you!
