How Long Until I Feel Better?

I think we have all been there. Making a new plan to take back our health, once and for all!

If you are anything like our family this hasn’t happened only once. For some of us it takes a few tries to find what we like to eat and cook, what meals work with our schedules and of course the commitment to sticking with the plan, come rain or shine. For others it’s like they were put in our lives to show the rest of us how easy it really is to improve ourselves and stay healthy. They are glowing, happy, vibrant, energetic and no longer our friend.

Haha, I am kidding! But you know who I’m talking about, don’t you?

The attempt to improve our health can definitely feel overwhelming. I have read books and articles stating we can form a new habit in 21 days or 66 days or 30 days. This gives us a pretty wide range of expectation. The reality is it will be different for each of us and there is no way of knowing when we will start to feel the gratification of our efforts. Maybe understanding some of the changes others have experienced when changing their diets can put us in a mindset to better achieve these goals and stick with them.

Though visible results are not immediate within the first few days of eating a healthy diet, please understand the beneficial changes taking place inside our bodies start immediately. Health starts from within and works its way out.

Our brains are finally getting fuel for optimal performance. Our immune system starts receiving the nutritional support it needs to turn right around and keep us at our healthiest. Metabolism and all body functions start to improve and streamline back to reaching homeostasis, even if we can’t feel or see it yet!
(HOH-mee-oh-STAY-sis) A state of balance among all the body systems needed for the body to survive and function correctly.

If we were to layout the changes, we can notice it might look something like this.

First couple or few days (possible changes):
• Increased energy levels.
• Improved digestion.
• Decreased bloating/retention.

One week in (subtle changes):
• Improved focus, productivity and mental clarity. Brain fog starts to fade away.
• Stabilized blood sugar with sustained energy. Cravings start to decrease and allow for a balanced appetite.
• Mood and demeanor become more positive. Less feeling down or moody.

Two to Four weeks (noticeable changes):
• Sleep quality has started improving due to the absorption of vitamins and nutrients that support our nervous system.
• Clearer skin, less blemishes and the whites of our eyes become brighter. Toxins are leaving the body as functional regulation starts. Our livers begin to filter effortlessly again not being weighed down by unhealthy ‘food’.

One month and beyond (long-term changes):
• All body functions stabilize for optimal health.
• Sustained weight management.
• Lowers risk of all chronic diseases.
• Healthy hair, skin and nails.
• We LOOK healthy as we are reflecting the status of the body as a whole.

The benefits that come from committing to our health are endless. When you eat good food, you feel good. When you feel good you start to behave more positively, and it becomes easier to make healthy choices in all areas of our lives. When we make healthy choices repeatedly, our bodies have no choice but to look good too. True health from the inside out is hard to miss because it encompasses our whole being.
