Microgreens and Your Mental Health

Managing our mental health includes numerous variables. Over the years beneficial behaviors have been brought to our attention by experts as mental health has become more of a focus point in achieving overall health. We are told to exercise, try to get great sleep (or some sleep), practice mindfulness and relaxation, make sure we have a social support circle, attend therapy, create new hobbies, and the list goes on. We want to feel good, but the truth is it can be a chore sometimes to keep it all together.

In this month’s blog I would like to focus on how eating nutrient dense food supports our bodily systems that in turn support superior mental health. It has been proven there is an absolute connection between what we eat and how we think and feel. We are discovering Microgreens play a huge part in supporting the function of our mental health.

Our bodily systems work symbiotically to support our mental health each in their own way. If we don’t receive proper nutrition, dysfunction sets in and starts a domino effect throughout our bodies. These changes may be tolerable or subtle to begin with, however by the time we are experiencing symptoms of dysfunction i.e. depression, panic or anxiety, it could take a while to turn the ship around. Not to mention, we’re really not in the best head space to take action now.

In total there are 11 bodily systems: Integumentary, Skeletal, Muscular, Nervous, Endocrine, Cardiovascular, Lymphatic, Respiratory, Digestive, Urinary, Reproductive.

Below I have listed a brief example of just a few to show how the dense nutrient value of Microgreens can support our bodies and keep us well.

Nervous System – This is basically the body’s Control Center. In short, it is responsible for transmitting signals that regulate emotions, thoughts and behaviors. Microgreens offer bioavailable vitamins B6 & B12 that are essential for nerve function and repair. Antioxidants that fight off oxidative stress that damages our nerves.

Endocrine System – Produces hormones that influence our mood and disposition. Microgreen vitamin and mineral combinations offer hormone-balancing support. In particular Sulforaphane, antioxidants, vitamins A, C, E & K and minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium and zinc.

Cardiovascular System – Delivers oxygen and nutrients to our body by way of our heart and blood vessels. Microgreens support this system with their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Keeping oxidative and everyday stress at bay can greatly strengthen our cardiovascular health.

Microgreens are inherently up to 40 times more nutrient dense than their vegetable counterparts. They are a perfect implementation to our diets to ensure our bodies continue to function properly in supporting our mood, thoughts and how we feel. To meet the nutritional Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) you can simply add a handful of Microgreens to each meal you eat in a day. Three handfuls a day.

We hope you will join us by including Microgreens in your daily diet to support emotional wellness and mental well-being.
