Entering the world of Microgreens has improved our lives in so many ways. We are healthier, happier and love knowing we are cultivating food that has the ability to greatly improve anyone’s life. If you are anything like us, you have at least one pet at home. Or maybe you have one too many? :-) Either way we get you. Our pets are part of the family. One of the ‘kids’ and we love and take care of them just the same.
Recently our dog went through an incident with a cyst on her toe that wouldn’t heal. Her toe was swollen to the size of a plum, and she was having a hard time putting weight on it. After two rounds of antibiotics, antibiotic ointment, pain pills and too many Epsom salt soaks to count, we were starting to get discouraged that her toe may never completely heal. Her stomach became so upset from the ongoing medication she stopped eating for a while. I assumed her gut microbiome was probably shot from the antibiotics as well and would need to be restored in order to start the healing process.
At this point we took a step back to look at the big picture and form a new plan of attack for the infection, pain and inflammation she was experiencing. Then it dawned on us, “why don’t we give her Microgreens?!” We already make homemade food that includes vegetables. Why not add more that have 40X the nutrients?
The next morning with breakfast I took out a small handful of our broccoli, kale, kohlrabi Microgreen mix and minced it up. (This mix is the base of one of our top blends Alive & Kicking for optimum health to eliminate inflammation). I stirred the Microgreens in with her food, set it down and of course played it cool like nothing had been added. Maybe the new flavors and textures were hidden a bit because of homemade food, but she ate them all! At dinner I did the exact same thing, and again she ate them all.
The next morning the swelling in her toe was down substantially. We couldn’t believe it after a month of treating her. The same anti-inflammatory Microgreens used for our own bodies did wonders for our dog’s health too! She was upbeat and obviously in less pain than the day before. We will continue on with the Epsom salt soaks and the Microgreens to ensure the infection completely heals. This experience made me want to share how responsive our bodies and our pets’ bodies are when we eat whole foods packed with exactly what we need to thrive. Mother Nature is truly amazing!
We are not veterinarians or nutritionists, just everyday people who needed to find a way to help their dog. Please research which Microgreen would be best for your specific pet and with any new food start with smaller quantities during the introduction period to ensure their digestion doesn’t get upset.
Beyond this, I believe in the endless benefits of the Microgreens we grow. And now, I have seen in both our health and now my dog’s health just how effective they can be.
